Meet the Team 5

Cath Barry

I have worked here for 10 years and I am the person who deals with anything financial. I am also the font of all knowledge and constantly remind the team where they have stored things and tell them where the best restaurants and pubs are in Cardiff.

When I am not in the office you will find me watching a rugby game or sampling the best pubs and restaurants in Cardiff!

Meet the Team 4

It’s not who or what you are but what you do that counts.I have been with NYAW since 2002 and am now NYAW Senior Administrator. Our work in the office and behind the scenes is to ensure that your auditions, workshops and courses run smoothly and safely.

To prepare for this position I have spent time working in the legal system, as a public affairs manager for a large charity and in repertory theatre (but never on stage).I have driven a tank, flown in a microlight over Southern France and organised events. You never know what you are going to be asked to do next and I will try most things once. Carpe diem!

Meet the Team 2

Meet The Team 2

Hi, I'm Emily Snead and along with Alex I am Admin Support for NYAW and have been for the last 2 years. We are the lovely girls who normally pick up the phone first, so you will get to know us quite quickly.

I moved to Cardiff 14 years ago from Somerset to study Fine Art Painting at UWIC and I found the art scene in Wales to be really vibrant, so made myself a home here. I worked at BayArt Gallery for 5 years before moving to Welsh Independant Dance and Community Dance Wales before joining the NYAW team.

Looking forward to working with you all. Feel free to give me a ring if you want further information.

Hey, I'm Alex James and I work alongside Emily Snead as Admin Support for NYAW.
We are your first point of contact throughout the year and should you have any questions no matter how big or small we are here to answer them.

For the new members, you are probably wondering what to expect in the lead up to the residency and tour. It is our intention to keep in contact with you each month with information as and when it is confirmed.

I am an ex-member of NYBBW and an active member of the BTM Brass Band and also a delegate for Wales on the European Brass Band Association.

I have been working for NYAW for 10 years, initially at Ty Cerdd and now at WJEC.

I hope you are all looking forward to the residency and tour, we guarentee you will have a great time and will meet some life-long friends.

NYAW 2013 and guests

Once again, the NYAW summer season takes 400 of Wales’ most talented young actors, dancers and musicians to a range of venues and festivals – both within Wales and beyond – with programmes to suit all tastes, including four world and Welsh premieres and some very special guests.

We’re always thrilled to welcome guest artists to share ‘The Nash’-experience.  They bring with them a wealth of experience and enthusiasm that is inspirational for our members, especially as they share their insights into the profession – whether that’s with an orchestra, a dance or theatre company, or as a soloist.  There’s nothing quite like hearing those ‘pearls of wisdom’ from someone actively engaged in the industry at the highest level.

It’s particularly rewarding when a former member returns to lead or contribute to the next generation of performers, notably demonstrated this year with the return of Grant Llewellyn to conduct the National Youth Orchestra of Wales (NYOW).

Equally exciting are opportunities to welcome new partners to collaborate with NYAW – this year, the award-winning theatre company, Frantic Assembly (noted, in Wales, for Little Dogs and Praxis Makes Perfect with National Theatre Wales) devises a brand new work with members of National Youth Theatre of Wales (NYTW).

NYAW summer residencies are already well underway with the Brass Band, Choir and Orchestra; the Dance and Theatre residencies will start in August.  In each case, teams of guest tutors and mentors, and members of our welfare teams – all eminent creators or performers in their own right – guide NYAW members through their paces as they prepare to ‘perform for Wales’.

These are enviable opportunities for NYAW performers, as are opportunities to showcase their talents in locations across Wales and further afield – from Aberystwyth to Altenburg in Germany, from Cardiff to Caernarfon, from Llandudno to Leeds – taking their considerable commitment and talent to a wider public.  The NYOW concert from the Young Euro Classics Festival in Berlin will even feature as a webcast – a first for NYAW!

It’s Access All Areas with National Youth Arts Wales (NYAW) this summer – with opportunities for audiences to witness the NYAW experience at home and abroad, in-concert and on-line – so, visit us again for more news and updates!
